As you may have notice in the trailers, Jordan Peele's Us was partially filmed on the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, CA, which was also used as the set for the fictional town Santa Carla in The Lost Boys. There's a portion of Peele's Us that takes place in 1986, so you'll want to pay close attention to notice a fun little easter egg connection to the 1987 vampire classic.
“We shot in Santa Cruz and the first scene of our movie is there,” Peele told Uproxx this week. “It’s the same beach, it’s the same amusement park. And it’s even 1986.”
Peele continued, “There is a reference to The Lost Boys shooting by the carousel. They’re walking down the Santa Monica boardwalk and the mother says, ‘You know they’re shooting a movie over there by the carousel.’”
Seriously, how fucking cool is that?! Basically, the 1986-set scene in Us take place at the same time Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys is being filmed at the exact location! What a treat for horror fans!
Us arrives in theaters tonight!
