Just like Mary Lambert’s 1989 adaptation, directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch's upcoming Pet Sematary has been given the rating that the filmmakers were striving for, and honestly, the rating it needs!
For all of you guys out there that may have been worried this new take on King's most terrifying novel might go the PG-13 route, we can confirm today that Pet Sematary has been rated “R” by the MPAA for horror violence, bloody images, and some language.
“Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed, who, after relocating with his wife Rachel and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall, setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.”
Jeté Laurence plays Ellie Creed, with Jason Clarke (Winchester) and Amy Seimetz (A Horrible Way to Die) as our new Louis and Rachel Creed. John Lithgow will be taking over the role of Jud Crandall, originally played by Fred Gwynne. Twins Hugo Lavoie and Lucas Lavoie are playing the iconic role of Gage Creed. actress Alyssa Brooke Levine has been cast as Zelda, with Obssa Ahmed playing Victor Pascow.
Paramount will release the film on April 5th, 2019.
