Chucky has received a high-tech upgrade in Orion Films' Child's Play remake, and he'll be voiced by none other than Star Wars legend Mark Hamill!
The announcement was made at Orion’s panel presentation at this weekend's WonderCon, in Anaheim, Deadline reports. “Fans bellowed their excitement when Hamill appeared on overhead video screens in a taped greeting.”
Of course the majority of franchise fans (myself included) have been rather negative in regards to their opinions on the remake, this being the first truly exciting news to break involving the film. As Deadline notes, Hamill is an accomplished voice actor with scores of credits in animated films, television shows, video games, radio dramas, and web projects. The signature role among his voice credits to date is the Joker, the DC Comics villain he portrayed first in 1992 on Batman: The Animated Series and then it’s tie-in 1993 feature film, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. The maniacal energy Hamill has brought to the Joker in follow-up animation projects (as well as video games, among them Arkham Asylum) has established the Clown Prince of Crime as perhaps the best-reviewed role of Hamill’s entire acting career.
There's no doubt, Brad Dourif will always be Chucky, but this is a rather huge win for Orion. Tell us your opinions in the comments!
Here's a video of Hamill breaking the news out of WonderCon.
"Child’s Play follows a mother who gives her son a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature."
The film stars stars Aubrey Plaza ("Parks and Recreation") as Karen, Emmy and Tony nominee Brian Tyree Henry ("Atlanta") as Mike and Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out) as Andy.
