Originally set for an August 9th release, it was announced today via CinemaCon and A24's official Twitter page that Ari Aster‘s follow-up to Hereditary, titled Midsommar, will now be releasing on July 3rd!
The film centers on a Pagan cult festival that takes place once every ninety years, and despite the vibrant environment, it doesn't look like a fun place to be. Speaking of the color palette, unlike Hereditary, Midsommar looks to feature a lot more brightly lit, daylight scenes - but rest assured, there's a very unnerving, sinister tone.
Midsommar stars Jack Reynor, Will Poulter and Florence Pugh with Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia and Archie Madekwe.
“Pugh and Reynor will play a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.”
