Last year, Corin Hardy's The Nun was a box office smash hit, bringing in more than $365 million worldwide and becoming the highest grossing film in The Conjuring Universe, so it's no surprise that New Line is developing a sequel. Deadline reports that Akela Cooper (“Luke Cage,” “Grimm,” “American Horror Story,” Hell Fest) has been hired to write the continuation of Valak's story.
Producer Peter Safran just told Entertainment Weekly recently told Entertainment Weekly, “We have a really fun storyline for that teed up, so I think that’s the next one that will be written.”
Safran will produce alongside James Wan through The Safran Company and Atomic Monster, respectively.
Bonnie Aarons played Valak in The Conjuring 2 and The Nun, it hasn't been confirmed if she'll return for the sequel.
