The full trailer for Lars Klevberg‘s remake of Child’s Play has arrived and it gives us a better look at what Orion will be unboxing on June 21st, 2019. We also get our first sample of Mark Hamill's voice as Chucky, and well, it sounds like Mark Hamill.
Though, other than that short sampling, Chucky is kept in the shadows (once again). We are able to see, however, that Klevberg is certainly going for a darker and scarier vibe, which it's admittedly nice to see a return to form for the killer doll, who hasn't been an ominous presence since the first film.
Regardless, the trailer basically reveals that the film follows the same story, just with Klevberg's own reinventions. In the Child's Play remake, a contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, is unaware of its more sinister nature.
The trailer also give us insight into Chucky's origins. In the original, Chucky is created by serial killer Charles Lee Ray after he uses magic to put his soul into a Good Guys doll. In this film, a manufacture worker puts a faulty or hacked A.I. chip into a Buddi doll. I do commend the trailer for keeping the Chucky footage to a minimal, that's smart marketing in my opinion.
Klevberg directed from Tyler Burton Smith’s (Kung Fury) screenplay. Bear McCreary ("The Walking Dead") will provide the film's score.
