It's only mid-April, but 2019 is shaping up to be a damn good year for metal at the movies - moreso, it's shaping up to be a damn good year for books about metal to get film adaptations. Of course, I'm talking about Lords of Chaos, a film about the early days of Norwegian Black Metal, and Netflix's Motley Crue biopic The Dirt (read our review), which is now streaming on Netflix.
We've now learned that Murder in the Front Row, a documentary covering the history of San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal bands will have its premiere this month, and today we have the doc's trailer to share with all you thrashers out there.
"In the early 1980’s, a small group of dedicated Bay Area headbangers shunned the hard rock of MTV and Hollywood hairspray bands in favor of a more dangerous brand of metal that became known as thrash! From the tape trading network to the clubs to the record stores and fanzines, director Adam Dubin reveals how the scene nurtured the music and the music spawned a movement."
Murder In The Front Row is told through powerful first person testimony and stunning animation and photography. The film is a social study of a group of young people defying the odds and building something essential for themselves. Featuring interviews with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Testament, Death Angel, Possessed and many more! The always entertaining Brian Posehn narrates.
The film will premiere on April 20th at San Francisco’s AMC Kabuki 8. It will be followed by a special performance by Metal Allegiance at the nearby Fillmore; Gary Holt is scheduled to join them, with additional special guests expected to appear as well.
