Don Mancini's 'Child's Play' TV Series Targeting 2020 Premiere

Child's Play Series Premiering 2020

While Orion is gearing up to release their Child's Play remake in theaters next month, we can't forget that Don Mancini is still continuing his original franchise with a Child's Play TV series that's currently being developed for SYFY. As far as we know, "Chucky" is the current working title for the series, with “Channel Zero” creator Nick Antosca producing.

Replying to a tweet last week, Mancini revealed that the series will premiere in 2020!

Chatting recently with Slash Film, Antosca said the series will lose the over-the-top comedic shenanigans that developed in later franchise entries, instead focusing on the tone of the earlier films.

“The series is going to be closer to the tone of the first two movies in the series though,” said Antosca. “It’s going to go back to a sort of classic scare.”

Mancini recently described the series as "a fresh take on the franchise," this suggests it will focus on a new story with new characters. Although, we do know that the series will exist within the continuity of Universal’s films.

“It’s consistent with that mythology, but it’s a whole new story,” Antosca continued. “So you could come into it without knowing anything about the previous stuff and get into it. But it is consistent with all the mythology that has come before, so it is in canon.”

Antosca also states that Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif are welcome to appear in the series.

Brad Dourif is expected to return as the voice of Chucky.
