Nearly 10 years after making viewers afraid of what lurks beneath the water with Piranha 3D, director Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) returns with more underwater terror this Summer in the alligator thriller Crawl, and today brings the release of the film's trailer from Paramount Pictures.
In the film, "When a massive hurricane hits her Florida hometown, Haley (Kaya Scodelario) ignores evacuation orders to search for her missing father (Barry Pepper). Finding him gravely injured in the crawl space of their family home, the two become trapped by quickly encroaching floodwaters. As time runs out to escape the strengthening storm, Haley and her father discover that the rising water level is the least of their fears."
The trailer looks like a mix of several great killer animal features from the past, blending elements of Rogue, Burning Bright, Deep Blue Sea, Bait, The Shallows, and many more. Given Aja's track record, we're sure this one will feature plenty of the red stuff, with some of the footage showing off some rather brutal moments. I need this in my life, now!
Aja directs from a screenplay by Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen. Producers are Craig Flores (300), Sam Raimi (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) and Aja.
Crawl arrives in theatres July 12th 2019.
