Shudder Picks Up Ghost Hunting Horror Comedy 'Deadtectives'

Shudder Acquires Deadtectives

From the producer of Netflix’s "El Chapo", Shudder has acquired all rights across its territories to the horror-comedy Deadtectives, Screen Daily reports. The film is described as an irreverent, laugh-out-loud blend of Ghostbusters, Shaun of the Dead and Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners.

Writer-director Tony West’s feature debut tells of a team of hapless reality TV ghost-hunters who encounter actual paranormal activity while filming in the most haunted mansion in Mexico.

"In this hilarious take on the paranormal, TV’s DeadTectives are dispatched to Mexico’s most haunted mansion and are charged with the task of bringing ‘real’ scares and big ratings or face cancellation. With a new no-nonsense Producer at the helm and a truckload of special effects at the ready, the team are determined to manufacture an excess of thrills and chills for a supernatural spectacular. However, when the true dark secrets of the mansion begin to reveal themselves the hapless presenters quickly discover that this house is no hoax. With zero ghost-hunting skills (or really any other applicable skills) the team has to figure out how to bust the ghosts, deliver the episode of a lifetime and escape the house with both their lives and their dignity."

"You're The Worst's" Chris Geere and Martha Higareda star, with Tina Ivlev, Jose Maria de Tavira, and David Newman rounding out the ensemble cast.

The film received its world premiere at Sitges last year, and will also screen at Seattle International Film Festival, and Fantaspoa International Fantastic Film Festival in Brazil.

Jason Tamasco and Jerry Careccio produced Deadtectives for Bad Idea, alongside Daniel Posada and Samantha Castellano for Dark Factory Ent, in association with Little Maniac Productions and Charles M. Barsamian of Exit Strategy Productions. Matt Helderman and Luke Taylor of Bondit Media Capital served as executive producers on the film.
