Stephen King's 'Stand By Me' Getting 4K Ultra HD Release With Never-Seen Deleted Scenes

Stand By Me Coming To 4K Ultra HD

We know this isn't "technically" a horror film, or sci-fi, or even fantasy, but we're gonna report on it anyways because it's fucking awesome, regardless of genre!

As we recently learned, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is finally making its way to 4K Ultra HD in October, and we've now learned that another King adaptation is also being restored in 4K.

Director Rob Reiner’s Stand By Me, based on King's novella The Body, will be receiving a 4K Ultra HD release on August 27th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The release will be sourced from a new 4K remaster with HDR and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and will also feature never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes!

Special features also include:

  • Picture-in-Picture Video Commentary with Director Rob Reiner and Actors Wil Wheaton & Corey Feldman

  • "Walking the Tracks: The Summer of Stand By Me"

  • Audio Commentary with Director Rob Reiner

In the 1986 film starring Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, and Kiefer Sutherland, "a group of friends are in search of a missing teenager's body. Wanting to be heroes in each other's and their hometown's eyes, they set out on an unforgettable two-day trek that turns into an odyssey of self-discovery. They sneak smokes, tell tall tales, cuss 'cause it's cool and band together when the going gets tough. When they encounter the town's knife-wielding hoods who are also after the body, the boys discover a strength they never knew they had."
