The Witch director Robert Eggers has re-teamed with genre production company A24 for a new feature titled The Lighthouse, an upcoming fantasy-horror film that Eggers wrote and directed. The film, which stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson and was shot on 35mm black and white stock, premiered at Cannes over the weekend and the reviews have been nothing less than stellar.
First reactions to Eggers' sophomore effort reve that it's "absolutely phenomenal," "a stunning blend myths and madness," and "a very worthy follow-up to The Witch." Based on the impressions left by the film, The Witch certainly was no fluke, and nearly every review raves about the performances by Pattinson and Dafore in particular.
The film is about an aging lighthouse keeper, named Old. It takes place in Nova Scotia in 1890.
Eggers himself stated that the movie is "more dreadful than horror."
