News broke last week that Blumhouse and director Sophia Takal (V/H/S, "Into the Dark: New Year, New You") are remaking Bob Clark’s horror classic Black Christmas, which hasn’t yet begun production but has been dated for release this December 13th.

Green Room actress Imogen Poots is set to star, and Deadline reports today that Cary Elwes (Saw, "Stranger Things" Season 3) has just joined the cast.

"Elwes will play a main part in the film but details of the role were not disclosed."

Aleyse Shannon ("Charmed"), Brittany O’Grady (Star), Lily Donoghue ("The Goldbergs") and Caleb Eberhardt (Broadway’s Choir Boy) will also star.

In the new film, Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays. One by one, sorority girls on campus are being killed by an unknown stalker. But the killer is about to discover that this generation’s young women aren’t willing to become hapless victims as they mount a fight to the finish.

Sophia Takal (Always Shine, "Into the Dark: New Year, New You") is directing a script written with April Wolfe.

Black Christmas is produced by Jason Blum (Halloween, Split) for his Blumhouse Productions, by Ben Cosgrove (The Good German, Rumor Has It) and by Adam Hendricks (Cam, Bloodline, Lucky) for Divide/Conquer. Hendricks’ partners in Divide/Conquer, Greg Gilreath (Cam, Bloodline) and Zac Locke (Adopt-A-Highway, Bloodline), will executive produce.
