In the works for over 3 years, the third season of the "Scream" TV series is on the way, this time on VH1 instead of its original home on MTV, and the first trailer for the new season, titled "Scream: Resurrection", features the return of Ghostface.
The Hollywood Reporter breaks the news.
The six-episode season of "Scream: Resurrection" will debut Monday, July 8th, and will run for two hours per night, starting at 9 p.m., through Wednesday, July 10th. Giving horror fans six hours of Ghostface in one week!
And probably the biggest news accompanying the trailer: new in season three is the actual Ghostface mask, which MTV's Scream had previously been unable to use. Roger Jackson, who voiced the killer in the Scream film franchise, will reprise the role for the VH1 take. This marks the first time the original Ghostface mask will be used on television.
Season three centers on Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler), a local star football running back, whose tragic past comes back to haunt him and threaten his hard-earned plans for the future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.
The cast also includes Mary J. Blige, Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, Tyga, Giorgia Whigham, Jessica Sula, C.J. Wallace and Giullian Yao Gioiello, with Paris Jackson as a guest star.
The new season is executive produced by Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, Yaneley Arty, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad, with the late, legendary Wes Craven also listed as an executive producer. Brett Matthews ("The Vampire Diaries", "Supernatural") is the showrunner for the third season.
