The official MPAA rating for Ari Aster's Midsommar has arrived, and it comes as absolutely no surprise that Aster's follow up to Hereditary has received a hard "R" rating.
Specifically, the film has been rated R for "Disturbing ritualistic violence, grisly images. strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and language."
Jordan Peele recently raved about the film, stating that it "was some of the most atrociously disturbing imagery I’ve ever seen on film, and yet I experienced it with this open-mouthed, wild-eyed gape," and it seem the MPAA agrees with his statements.
Midsommar stars Jack Reynor, Will Poulter and Florence Pugh with Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia and Archie Madekwe.
"Pugh and Reynor will play a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult."
Midsommar arrives in theaters on July 3rd.
