Adam Egypt Mortimer‘s (Some Kind of Hate, Holidays) Daniel Isn’t Real has been acquired by Shudder and Samuel Goldwyn Films, Deadline reports today.

The thriller from SpectreVision has been co-acquired by the two companies for distribution in North America. It’ll be released in both theaters and VOD later this year.

In the film, co-written by Mortimer and Brian DeLeeuw and based on DeLeeuw’s book In This Way I Was Saved, "troubled college freshman Luke (Miles Robbins) suffers a violent family trauma and resurrects his childhood imaginary friend Daniel (Patrick Schwarzenegger) to help him cope. Charismatic and full of manic energy, Daniel helps Luke to achieve his dreams, before pushing him to the very edge of sanity and into a desperate struggle for control of his mind, and his soul."

Sasha Lane, Hannah Marks and Mary Stuart Masterson also star.

Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, Lisa Whalen and Elijah Wood produced the film.
