Back in May, we brought you the unexpected news that Chris Rock was executive producing a new Saw movie, and with production now underway on the film this week, THR reports that Rock will also star alongside Samuel L. Jackson?!
The site notes that Rock is playing a "police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes," while Jackson portrays the father of Rock's character.
"We think Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock along with Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols make this film completely special in the Saw canon and we can’t wait to unleash this unexpected and sinister new story on fans of this franchise. This is next level of Saw on full tilt," said Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.
The new film will see Darren Lynn Bousman back behind the camera for another round of twisted games. Bousman, of course, took over the franchise from creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell, who have since produced the sequels alongside Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, and directed Saw II-IV.
The screenplay was written by Jigsaw writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, and based on a story conceived by Rock, who will also star.
We're still unsure if we’ll see Tobin Bell‘s Jigsaw (John Kramer) in this new installment, which will be released on October 23rd, 2020.
The film will be produced by longtime Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules.
