Behind The Scenes Video Shows the Making Of A New Chucky For This Year's 'Child's Play&#

Behind the Scenes Making Chucky Child's Play 2019

The Chucky featured in Lars Klevberg's Child's Play remake is very different from the one we know and love from the original franchise. Aside from being voiced by Mark Hamill rather than Brad Dourif, Chucky 2019 isn't inhibited by the soul of a serial killer, instead he's a "smart toy" who's been hacked and turned into a murderous maniac.

When it came time to resurrect Child’s Play, David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, the producers of IT, and director Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) looked to Award-winning FX artist Todd Masters to create the new Chucky.

Todd Masters and his team over at MastersFX created the brand new Chucky for Orion’s remake, and a new video from the Stan Winston School takes you behind the scenes to show off their process. To get started, Masters studied what Kevin Yagher had done with the original Chucky movies. Like those films, "we really wanted it to be a practical, physical, touch the doll kind of movie," Masters says. "The benefit to using practical effects was obvious."

In total, the team created seven different animatronic puppets, all of which were puppeteered by rods, cables, and with radio controlled facial features.

Lucas Liner also had the pleasure of interviewing Masters regarding his work on the film. You can read that HERE.
