James Wan's 'Mortal Kombat' Movie Casts 'The Raid' Star Joe Taslim As Sub-Zero

The James Wan-produced Mortal Kombat film is finally happening and today brings the first bit of casting news. THR reports that actor and martial artist Joe Taslim (The Raid, The Night Comes for Us) will be playing iconic fighter Sub-Zero in the New Line movie!

Simon McQuoid is directing the film for New Line/Warner Bros.

The film's initial press release hyped, “Mortal Kombat is a bold cinematic adventure based on the blockbuster video game franchise,” the movie’s initial press release hyped.

Cameras are scheduled to start rolling in Adelaide, Australia, later this year. South Australia Premier Steven Marshall announced on May 13th that it will be the biggest film production in the state’s history.

The current screenplay is by Greg Russo (the upcoming Highwaymen). Todd Garner (Isn’t It Romantic, Tag) also produces alongside Wan, with Larry Kasanoff (True Lies), E. Bennett Walsh (Men in Black: International, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Michael Clear (The Nun, Lights Out), and Sean Robins are executive producing.

The fight begins on March 5th, 2021.
