'SAW' Has Begun Production; Here's The Cast And Character Details

Max Minghella SAW IX

As we told you yesterday, Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock have been confirmed to be starring in the upcoming ninth installment of the popular SAW franchise that will be helmed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV).

Production has begun on the film that will feature Rock as a police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes and Jackson will portray Rock’s father. We've also learned that other cast members include Max Minghella (pictured above; Horns, The Darkest Hour) who will play William Schenk, Rock’s partner and Marisol Nichols (pictured below; Scream 2, "Riverdale") will play Capt. Angie Garza, Rock’s boss.

The film will offer fans worldwide a new amped-up level of deviously treacherous traps, clever clues and the edge-of-the-seat suspense they expect from one of the world’s most terrifying horror franchises.

The new entry is in production as "SAW IX" and will be canonized, which is confirmed by Joe Drake, Chairman of the Lionsgate.

"We think Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock along with Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols make this film completely special in the Saw canon and we can’t wait to unleash this unexpected and sinister new story on fans of this franchise. This is next level of Saw on full tilt," said Drake.

The film will be produced by longtime Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules - who are back once again to shepherd this re-imagining. The screenplay is based on a story conceived by Rock and written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The film will be executive produced by Chris Rock, long-time Saw executive producer Daniel Heffner and the original creators of SAW, James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

We're still unsure if we’ll see Tobin Bell‘s Jigsaw (John Kramer) in this new installment, which will be released on October 23rd, 2020.
