While CBS All Access is moving forward with a brand new series adaptation of Stephen King's epic post-apocalyptic novel The Stand, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the first adaptation of the book, the Mick Garris-directed miniseries, and CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment are celebrating this September with a Collector's Edition Blu-ray release.
Directed by Garris from a screenplay by King, "The Stand" is a post-apocalyptic horror/fantasy novel by American author Stephen King. It expands upon the scenario of his earlier short story "Night Surf" and presents a detailed vision of the total breakdown of society after the accidental release of a strain of influenza that had been modified for biological warfare causes an apocalyptic pandemic, killing off over 99% of the world's population.
Stephen King's "The Stand" miniseries will be released on Blu-ray on September 24th. Full bonus features have yet to be revealed, but the Collector's Edition is expected to feature a restored version.
