The Mortal Kombat franchise will be making its way to the big screen in a couple of years with director Simon McQuoid‘s feature film reboot for New Line and Warner Bros, which is being produced by James Wan. We learned earlier this week that Joe Taslim (The Raid, The Night Comes for Us) is attached to play Sub-Zero, and if you had any sort of doubts, the film is certainly going to be rated "R".
Screenwriter Greg Russo tweeted this week, "Since it’s already been stated by other members of the team, I’m gonna put this one to bed. MK WILL be R-Rated and for the first time EVER, FATALITIES will FINALLY be on the big screen (and no I’m not gonna say which ones). You’ll just have to wait for the movie & see!!!"
While I love the original film, as cheesy as it may be, it's nice to know that the video game franchise is finally being done right!
"Mortal Kombat is a bold cinematic adventure based on the blockbuster video game franchise," the film’s initial press release hyped.
The fight will begin on March 5th, 2021. Stay tuned for more details.
