Zack Snyder's Zombie Movie 'Army Of The Dead' Begins Production; Garret Dillahunt Joins

Zack Snyder, who directed the Dawn of the Dead remake, is headed back into the undead horde for Netflix‘s big-budget zombie movie Army of the Dead, and The Hollywood Reporter lets us know that production has officially begun this week. Additionally, they note, the cast has been rounded out with a handful of new names, including Garret Dillahunt ("Fear the Walking Dead").

Omari Hardwick, Chris D’Elia, Hiroyuki Sanada, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, Matthias Schweighöfer, Samantha Win and Rich Cetrone have also joined the cast, which also includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi and Huma Qureshi.

"The adventure is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted."

"There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one," Snyder told THR back in January. "It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen."

Snyder will produce and direct through his own company Stone Quarry, with his wife Deborah, Army of the Dead was written by Joby Harold.
