Marvel’s Kevin Feige shook San Diego Comic-Con attendees to their cores tonight, as he just announced that Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali (Green Book, Moonlight, "True Detective", "House of Cards") will be playing Blade in a new film!
We currently don't have any further details on the film other than it's a brand new Blade film included in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The original adaptation, produced and distributed by New Line Cinema, was an R-rated film that starred Wesley Snipes as the half-vampire/half-human comic book character created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan for Marvel comics. The first film went on to spawn two sequels and a short-lived television series, with Snipes also making a cameo appearance as Blade in FX's "What We Do in the Shadows" series. Snipes portrayed in such a masterful way, making the vampire killer in to an unforgettable character for a generation of moviegoers, so it'll be interesting to see what Ali can bring to the table.
