Release Date For Darren Bousman's New 'SAW' Movie Moves Up Five Months

Darren Bousman Chris Rock SAW Release Date Moved

Production is currently underway on the next SAW film, which sees Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV) returning to the director’s chair. With a cast that includes Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, Lionsgate has bumped up the release of the film by a little more than five months, THR reports.

The new installment had originally been set to bring its twisted traps back into theaters on October 23rd, 2020, but we’ve learned today that the film’s release date has been bumped up all the way to May 15th, 2020!

This is no doubt a response from the studio to last week’s news that Halloween Kills will be hitting theaters on October 16, 2020, as the SAW franchise has had a long tradition of releasing new installments in October. It'll be interesting to see how the film fares up against next Summer's blockbusters.

Chris Rock will play a police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes and Jackson will portray Rock’s father. We've also learned that other cast members include Max Minghella (Horns, The Darkest Hour) who will play William Schenk, Rock’s partner and Marisol Nichols (Scream 2, "Riverdale") will play Capt. Angie Garza, Rock’s boss.

The film will offer fans worldwide a new amped-up level of deviously treacherous traps, clever clues and the edge-of-the-seat suspense they expect from one of the world’s most terrifying horror franchises.

We're still unsure if we’ll see Tobin Bell‘s Jigsaw (John Kramer) in this new installment.
