The CW Will Shoot A Brand New Pilot For "The Lost Boys" TV Series This Fall

The Lost Boys CW New Fall Pilot

We learned last month that The CW‘s already-completed pilot episode for am upcoming TV series based on the '80s vampire classic The Lost Boys is being completely scrapped and re-tooled, with most of the roles being entirely recast in another attempt to get the long-gestating project off the ground. Revealed by executive producer Rob Thomas over the weekend, the brand new pilot will begin filming this coming fall.

"The writer, Heather Mitchell, is doing a rewrite on the script right now; we have gotten through the notes process," Thomas explained to Deadline. "We are going to shoot the pilot this fall. There were scenes that we thought we could do a better job on, so it’s going through a 40% rewrite. It’s not a total rewrite."

Thomas added, "Two years ago, I wrote a very outside-the-box version of [the pilot]. The network didn’t want to go that far outside the box. So fortunately, the writer who is working on it right now, Heather Mitchell, loves the original movie and is eager to make the series look a little bit more like the original Lost Boys. It’s two human brothers showing up in this California beach town with the amusement park and a vampire infestation. It’s going to have a lot in common with the movie."

As mentioned above, all but two actors - Medalion Rahimi (Before I Fall) and Dakota Shapiro ("The Affair") - will be recast for the new pilot. Rahimi plays Stella, who is a new version of Star, while Shapiro is David, portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland in the 1987 film..

"The Lost Boys" is set in sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires.

After the sudden death of their father, brothers Michael (Posey) and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother, Lucy (Sanchez), who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers soon find themselves being drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

Rob Thomas ("iZombie" and "Veronica Mars") will serve as executive producer alongside Mitchell, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz, and Bill Bindley, with Rebecca Franko and Juliana Janes on board as producers.
