Everardo Gout Will Direct The Fifth 'Purge' Film; Releasing Summer 2020

The Purge 5 Everardo Gout

The fifth installment in The Purge franchise is set to release in theaters next year, and Variety reports this week that Everardo Gout (Nat Geo’s "Mars") will be serving as the film's director.

Franchise creator James DeMonaco, who penned the first three Purge films, will return to write the latest movie for Blumhouse Productions, Platinum Dunes and Universal Pictures.

At this time, the film is currently untitled and we don't have any details, though it is worth noting that with four feature films and a television series under the franchise's belt, DeMonaco most likely has his sights set on bringing things to a head, quite possibly with this next film. Best to go out on top, right?

"I have [the next installment] in my head," DeMonaco recently told Entertainment Weekly. "I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home."

The First Purge raked in a more than respectable $69 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film in the series and proving that the franchise is still profitable on the big screen, but how much more can possibly be milked from the concept? If the fifth film really is the last one, let's hope the franchise can go out with a bang!
