AMC will be expanding the world of "The Walking Dead" with a second spinoff series that'll be arriving next year. Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Aliyah Royale and Annet Mahendru were previously announced to lead the cast, and Deadline reports this week that Nico Tortorella (Scream 4, "Younger") has also signed on for a leading role in the currently untitled spinoff series.

"Nico’s character, Felix, is described as an honorable man of his word who isn’t afraid to fight for others’ safety and acceptance."

We don’t know all that much about the series other than the general approach, but it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) will direct the pilot episode.

The series is said to feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it.

"Showing audiences an unseen pocket of The Walking Dead universe steeped in a new mythology is a very cool way to celebrate a ‘Decade of the Dead’ on TV and over 15 years of Robert Kirkman’s brilliant comic," co-creator Scott Gimple recently told EW. "Matt Negrete is one of the best writer-producers in TWD’s long history — I’m thrilled to be working beside him to tell stories unlike we’ve seen before, taking our first step into an even larger world."

The 10-episode first season of the untitled series has begun productions and will premiere on AMC in Spring 2020.
