Arriving just in time for the holidays, Blumhouse and Sophia Takal‘s Black Christmas, a timely take on Bob Clark's classic, will be released in theaters on December 13th, and today sees the release of the film's official trailer. In it, a campus killer comes to face a formidable group of friends in sisterhood.
In the reimagining, Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays, but as a group of friends prepare to deck the halls with a series of seasonal parties, a black-masked stalker begins killing sorority women one by one. As the body count rises, the sisters start to question whether they can trust any man.
Of course, this isn't the first time the film has been remade, with the first reimagining, Black X-Mas, being released in 2006. Although, this film does seem to be taking a slightly different, albeit more feminist approach. There's the typical masked killer doing what he does best, but there also seems to be some cult ongoings at the center of it all.
Whoever the killer is, he’s about to discover that this generation’s young women aren’t about to be anybody’s victims.
Black Christmas stars Imogen Poots (Green Room), Cary Elwes (Saw, "Stranger Things" 3), Aleyse Shannon (CW's "Charmed"), Brittany O’Grady (Fox's "Star"), Lily Donoghue ("The Goldbergs", "Jane the Virgin") and Caleb Eberhardt ("Mozart in the Jungle").
Takal co-wrote the script with April Wolfe (Widower). The new take on the 1974 slasher classic is produced by Jason Blum (Halloween, Split) for his Blumhouse Productions, by Ben Cosgrove (The Good German, Rumor Has It) and by Adam Hendricks (Cam, Bloodline, Lucky) for Divide/Conquer. Blumhouse’s Couper Samuelson and Jeanette Volturno will executive produce with Divide/Conquer’s Greg Gilreath and Zac Locke.
