On the heels of IT: Chapter Two hitting theaters, Stephen King's latest novel, The Institute, just arrived on store shelves today and we've learned that it's already set to be developed as a limited series adaptation.
THR reports that The Institute is in development at Spyglass Media Group, with David E. Kelley ("Big Little Lies", "Goliath") slated to adapt King's novel as a series, and Jack Bender ("Lost", "The Last Ship") is attached to direct. Both Kelley and Bender will executive produce.
The duo are no strangers to adapting King's work, as they've worked together on the "Mr. Mercedes" TV series, and Bender is currently executive producing the upcoming series based on King's 2018 novel, The Outsider.
"I’m delighted to be working with Jack and David, the creative team behind Mr. Mercedes. We think alike, and I believe The Institute is going to be a great success," King told THR.
Spyglass has also signed a multiyear, first-look deal with Bender to develop TV projects for the company.
The Institute follows a group of kids with special talents — telepathy and telekinesis — who are kidnapped and taken to The Institute, where the director and staff are ruthlessly dedicated to extracting the force of the kids' gifts from them.
