Last year, Synapse Films released Dario Argento's Suspiria as a 2-disc special edition Blu-ray. The release featured a brand-new 4K restoration, and now Synapse has gone back to the 4K scans that served as the source for that widely acclaimed Blu-ray presentation of the film and started from scratch in order to fully take advantage of the opportunities created by Ultra HD!
The exclusive new 4K restoration comes from the original uncut, uncensored 35mm Italian camera negative with the original theatrical 4.0 English surround sound mix. Synapse Films’ restored version of the 1977 classic was completed with the supervision and approval of the film’s Director of Photography, Luciano Tovoli. The film will be available for the first time ever on home video in a true 2160p 4K presentation with High Dynamic Range and a new Dolby Atmos remix!
"We went back to the original 4K files and did a new color correction that took full advantage of the UHD format’s expanded color and high dynamic range capabilities," said Synapse President Don May, Jr. "You might have seen Suspiria in the past, but now you can experience it in a whole new way!"
In the film, Suzy (Jessica Harper) travels to Germany to attend ballet school. When she arrives, late on a stormy night, no one lets her in, and she sees Pat (Eva Axén), another student, fleeing from the school. When Pat reaches her apartment, she is murdered. The next day, Suzy is admitted to her new school, but has a difficult time settling in. She hears noises, and often feels ill. As more people die, Suzy uncovers the terrifying secret history of the place.
