Tom Six's first two Human Centipede films are two of the horror genre's most controversial films, and while the third film completely derailed the trilogy into utter ridiculousness (yes, we know the trilogy is already quite ridiculous in terms of subject matter), Six has always included some sort of social commentary in his films.
His next film, The Onania Club, which is described as "part ‘Sex and the City’ on evil steroids and part pure, pitch black, comedy," is guaranteed to spark much of the same outrage and controversy as the Human Centipede films, and centers on a group of people who take pleasure in the misery of others. As you can see in the trailer below, the commentary is most certainly there, as fucked up at it may be.
In the film, Hanna (Jessica Morris) secretly joins a group called The Onania Club. Its members, strong independent L.A. bound women, get aroused by the misery of others. Hanna meets more misery than she could ever hope for and in the process loses everything she holds dear.
Darcy DeMoss, Deborah Twiss, Karen Strassman, and Flo Lawrence also star.
"The movie’s main theme is ‘Schadenfreude, which means taking pleasure out of other people’s misery," says Six. "It is a social commentary on the ever-growing political correctness in the privileged Western world and the hypocrisy of that.
The Onania Club will be up for grabs at this November's AFM in Santa Monica, CA.
