With three films released and a forth on the way, the John Wick franchise continues to defy the law of sequels, growing in popularity with each entry. And it seems Wick's story is only the tip of the iceberg, as Deadline reports today that a spinoff is on the way
The site reports Len Wiseman (Underworld, "Swamp Thing") will be directing the female-led spinoff film for Lionsgate, titled Ballerina.
"Ballerina focuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family."
As you may recall, in John Wick Chapter 3, Anjelica Huston’s character trains ballerinas in the same facility where John Wick trained to become the total badass that he is in the films. Unity Phelan also appears in the credits of Chapter 3 under the character Ballerina, but its unconfirmed if she'll be the star of the film.
It's also unconfirmed if Keanu Reeves will appear in the film. At the very least, he should receive a cameo role.
Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3, Army of the Dead) wrote the script.
The picture is being produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski, with Reeves as executive producer.
As a reminder, John Wick: Chapter 4 hits theaters on May 21st, 2021.
