For more than 100 years, a deeply haunting tale has been passed down to terrify audiences.

Inspired by Henry James’ landmark novel The Turn of the Screw, Universal Pictures has today released the first trailer for Floria Sigismondi's (The Runaways, Hulu’s "The Handmaid’s Tale") haunted-house thriller The Turning.

The film takes us to a mysterious estate in the Maine countryside, where newly appointed nanny (Mackenzie Davis) is charged with the care of two disturbed orphans, Flora and Miles (Brooklynn Prince and Finn Wolfhard, respectively). Quickly though, she discovers that both the children and the house are harboring dark secrets and things may not be as they appear

Joely Richardson (Red Sparrow, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) also stars in the film that was written by Jade Bartlett from the most recent draft by Chad and Carey W. Hayes (The Conjuring).

The Turning is produced by Scott Bernstein (Straight Outta Compton, Ride Along 2) and Roy Lee (IT, The Lego Movie), with Steven Spielberg executive producing.

Universal will release the film domestically and in select international territories on January 24th, 2020.
