This year has given us a crite-load of Critters, beginning with the Shudder Exclusive series "Critters: A New Binge," which consisted of 8 episodes and while it wasn't all that fun, I did enjoy the special effects. Following the series, a straight-to-video (Blu-ray, DVD and VOD) sequel, titled Critters Attack!, was released back in July, and it was a total blast in my opinion!
Critters Attack! was written by Scott Lobdell (Happy Death Day) and directed by Bobby Miller (The Cleanse), and will premiere in SYFY tomorrow, October 19th at 9pm EST. The first Critters film in nearly three decades will premiere on the channel following a Nightmare on Elm Street marathon that will kick off Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare and end with the original film, for some odd reason.
Inspired by the film series from the ’80s and ’90s, Critters Attack! follows 20-year-old Drea (Tashiana Washington), who reluctantly takes a job babysitting for a professor of a college she hopes to attend. Struggling to entertain the professor’s children Trissy (Ava Preston) and Jake (Jack Fulton), along with her own little brother Phillip (Jaeden Noel), Drea takes them on a hike, unaware that mysterious alien critters have crash-landed and started devouring every living thing they encounter.
Dee Wallace (E.T., The Howling), who starred in the original Critters as Helen Brown, reprised her role for Critters Attack!. Rupert Harvey and Barry Opper from the original film franchise produced the film.
