Kiefer Sutherland Talks "Violent And Gross" Scene That Was Edited From 'The Lost Boys&

Kiefer Sutherland Gross Scene The Lost Boys

Hitting the scene back in 1987, Joel Schumacher’s vampire classic The Lost Boys already carried an "R" rating upon release, but apparently there was some violence that never made its way into the final cut of the film.

In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, star Kiefer Sutherland, who played the head vamp David, details his favorite scene that was unfortunately hacked up during the editing process.

"There was a scene that actually didn’t make the movie that I was really, really excited about, mainly because it was just so violent I couldn’t believe that we were doing it," Sutherland told the source. "It’s sort of in the movie — they cut around it — but there was a guy on a beach and he was bald and they had made a prosthetic cast of his head. And the part of the scene that I loved the most was literally, it was like a cake: I ate the whole back of his head off and blood just went everywhere. I had been directed to just smile like a child having cake, and the two images were so frightening and scary."

For the remainder of the interview, Kiefer goes on to explain he channeled Billy Idol for his performance as David and that he may be responsible for the creation of the mullet. Follow the link above to check out the full conversation!

Even though the scene in which Sutherland is referring to is one of the best in the film (seen below), it has always felt a bit choppy, and now we know why. As much as I'd love to see the sequence in all of its intended gory glory, I know it'll probably never happen. Regardless, I fucking love The Lost Boys and knowing this doesn't alter my feelings on the film in the slightest. Although, I may revisit my Blu-ray's commentary track to see if Schumacher mentions anything regarding the editing of the scene.
