Following its World Premiere at this year's Fantasia Film Festival, Deadline lets us know that IFC Midnight has acquired the rights to Brett and Drew Pierce's (Deadheads) witchy creature feature The Wretched.
The Wretched follows a defiant teenage boy, struggling with his parent’s imminent divorce, who faces off with a thousand year-old witch, who is living beneath the skin of the woman next door.
Fantasia described the film as "a dead serious new spin on witchcraft cinema, with a fresh set of rules, likeable and developed teen characters, a ton of surprising scares and a cauldron of imaginatively gruesome special make-up effects."
Written and directed by the Pierces, The Wretched stars John-Paul Howard (Hell or High Water), Piper Curda (I Didn't Do It), Jamison Jones ("True Detective"), Azie Tesfai ("Supergirl"), Kevin Bigley (Netflix's Upload) and Zarah Mahler (Nightmare Cinema).
The film features special effects by Erik Porn ("Fear The Walking Dead"). Chang Tseng and Ed Polgardy produced.
The release is set for 2020.
