StudioCanal’s Upcoming 4K Releases Include 'Total Recall', 'Basic Instinct', And &#3

Total Recall Irreversible Basic Instinct 4K StudioCanal

Back in October, we reported that StudioCanal would be bringing the "Straight Cut" of Gaspar Noé's highly controversial Irreversible to home video sometime in 2020, and Deadline lets us know today that the company has plans to release an entire wave of restored classics next year in addition to Irreversible: Straight Cut.

The site notes, "The library titles will get home entertainment releases in multiple Studiocanal territories and some will have theatrical play."

Here's the current lineup:

  • Breathless

  • Basic Instinct

  • Dead of Night

  • The Elephant Man

  • Flash Gordon

  • Irreversible

  • The Ladykillers

  • Lo Sceicco Blanco

  • The Red Circle

  • Serpico

  • The Three Days of the Condor

  • Total Recall (1990)

Noe’s new "Straight Cut" screened at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year and shifts the narrative of the film into chronological order. The new edit changes everything; the characters' lives move from calm to madness, from love to hate and from heaven to hell.

"Everything is clear and also darker. No dialogues have been cut, nor have any events in the story. Which is why this version is called the Straight Cut," said Noé. "Until now, Irreversible was a deliberate puzzle. Now its a diptych, like on old record whose B side is the less conceptual mix of the track on side A, but this time with voices that are more audible, rendering the meaning of the words more fatalistic. You will see. Time reveals all things."

You can check out the trailer for the new release below.
