You know, I really, REALLY dislike writing about Shudder (for reasons I won't discuss here), but given that Jordan Downey's low budget medieval horror film The Head Hunter is one of the best films I've seen in recent years, I figured I'd let you all know that it's headed to the streaming service this December.
In his review, Sean Ellis stated that "The Head Hunter is a must see for cinephiles with an ending you won't see coming."
Without a doubt, the film will be on both mine and Sean's "top 10" list for 2019. For me, the film is currently neck and neck with Tarantino's Once Upon A Time in Hollywood as my favorite film of the year. It goes without saying, see this film any way that you can, even if it means supporting Shudder. Although, I suggest picking up the DVD release.
In the film set on the outskirts of a kingdom, a quiet but fierce medieval warrior (Christopher Rygh) protects the realm from monsters and the occult. His gruesome collection of heads is missing only one — the monster that killed his daughter (Cora Kaufman) years ago. Driven by revenge, he travels wild expanses on horseback looking for the monster. When his second chance arrives, it’s in a way far more horrifying than he ever imagined.
The film will stream in the US, UK and Canada on December 5th! Please, for the love of cinema, don't skip this one!
Also, be sure to check out more words of praise from Sean in his review of the film and in an episode of Ellissinema Podcast embedded below.
