Elizabeth Banks To Star In And Direct 'Invisible Woman' For Universal

Invisible Woman Star In And Direct Elizabeth Banks

As we wait for the 2020 release of Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man, which will place "The Haunting of Hill House" star Oliver Jackson-Cohen in the titular role, Deadline lets us know today that Universal Pictures is also gearing up for a new take on 1940’s The Invisible Woman!

The site reports that Elizabeth Banks (Brightburn, Charlie's Angels) will star in and direct the film based on the iconic character created by legendary author H.G. Wells in his 1897 novella.

Deadline notes, "I’m told Banks will be the one who turns invisible in the film."

The Hollywood Reporter says that the film's tone is described as "Thelma & Louise meets American Psycho." The screenplay for the new Invisible Woman was written by Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train, Chloe, Secretary) and is based on a pitch by Banks.

Banks will produce Invisible Woman alongside Max Hendelman through their Brownstone Productions banner.

In the original film that starred Virginia Bruce as the titular character, "An attractive model with an ulterior motive volunteers as guinea pig for an invisibility machine."

While the original took a more comedic approach, this new film is expected to take a more horror-centric approach. The film is not expected to connect to Whannell's The Invisible Man story-wise.
