'Jacob's Ladder' And 'The Stuff' Actor Danny Aiello Has Passed Away


Danny Aiello Dead At 86

Majorly known in the horror community for playing the angelic chiropractor Louis in Adrian Lyne's Jacob’s Ladder, actor Danny Aiello unfortunately passed away earlier this week at the age of 86, following the onset of a "sudden illness."

Aiello made his acting debut in 1973 with Bang the Drum Slowly and the following year he played Tony Rosato in The Godfather: Part II. In 1990, he was nominated for "Best Supporting Actor" at the Academy Awards for his memorable performance as Sal in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing.

"I’m heartbroken," Lee wrote on Instagram. "We made cinema history together with Do the Right Thing. May you rest in paradise."

In terms of horror, the actor appeared in Larry Cohen's classic The Stuff as Vickers and starred in the "Tales from the Darkside" episode titles "The Odds".

With over 100 acting credits in his career, Allieo also starred in Bloodbrothers, Once Upon a Time in America, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Moonstruck, Man on Fire, Hudson Hawk, Leon: The Professional and Lucky Number Slevin. He recently starred in Joe McGuinness' One Moment, which is currently in post-production.

"Goodbye dear Danny Aiello," Cher posted on Twitter. "Danny was a great actor, but a genius comedic actor. We laughed so much making Moonstruck. It was one of the happiest times in my life."

Aiello is survived by his wife 64 years, Sandy Cohen, and their three children.
