RoboDoc ED-209 Clip

"I am now authorized to use physical force!"

Three years in the making, Christopher Griffiths and Eastwood Allen's upcoming RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop is a feature length retrospective into the making of RoboCop, its sequels and legacy, and this week sees the release of a near-20-minute clip from the doc!

The offers up an in-depth look at the infamously bloody ED-209 boardroom scene that originally earned the film an "X" rating with the MPAA. Within the clip, we're treated to the stop motion animation, concept art, and the record-breaking use of squibs that went into creating the scene and the peacekeeping machine itself.

Check out the 20-minute sneak peak and learn more about RoboDoc below!

RoboDoc is supported with over 100 interviews from the original cast and crew of the original Orion Pictures Trilogy, the Canadian TV Series, comic books and video games. The film will feature script pages to concept art, stories of stop motion, sound design and more from the beloved '80s classic.

The documentary is made as a labour of love by a team of RoboCop fans, Director Christopher Griffiths states: "To say that RoboCop is a big part of my life is an understatement. Just ask anybody who knows me. It is the film that started it all from me at an age when I probably shouldn’t have been watching it like many others, but I did and I have grown up with it and found new things each time I watch it."

In a recent update released with the above clip, the RoboDoc team stated: "There is no release date at this time. The project has grown significantly since we first started and we want to give the RoboCop series the proper treatment it deserves. We’re (still) deep into editing on all of the separate documentary parts (OVER 6 hours of content)."

They add, "we’re trying to incorporate newly found materials whilst continuing to work on the visual effects, compositing and motion graphics."

The filmmakers have also revealed that they were able to speak with RoboCop himself, Peter Weller, about the film at the For the Love of Sci-fi Convention where they hosted his live Q&A panel. While they're trying to get him involved with the documentary, it's probably best not to get your hopes up, as Weller's involvement appears to come with a hefty price.

"We also hit the stage to interview Robo himself - Dr. Peter Weller. Peter spoke to us backstage where he expressed interest in being interviewed for RoboDoc. Unfortunately Dr. Weller’s requested appearance fee is more than we can afford with our independent production."

"We’re still in communication with him and he has once again wished us luck with the doc."

Regardless of Weller's involvement, RoboDoc is sure to be nothing short of spectacular when its finally completed! Stay tuned for more updates.
