Causing quite a shock at auction this week when it sold for $204,000, the original "Zuni Hunter" hero puppet from the made-for-television anthology Trilogy of Terror just became the most valuable prop in horror history!
The famous doll went up for sale at Profiles in History last Thursday (December 19th) and was only expected to fetch $12,000 - $15,000, but ended up reaching a final price of $217,600, including buyer’s premium!
This broke the previous record set back in October when the axe used by Jack Nicholson in The Shining sold at Prop Store in London for a total of $211,700.
Standing at just 13" tall, the puppet was one of three made for the production, and was used in all of the close-up shots.
Dan Curtis' Trilogy of Terror premiered on ABC in March of 1975 and quickly came to be considered one of the best horror anthologies of all-time, mainly due to tremendous acting talent of Karen Black, who plays four distinct roles in the film.
Nearly 45 years later, the Zuni Doll remains one of the creepiest and most iconic dolls in horror history, and this bit of news makes that latter part very clear!
Trilogy of Terror was released on Blu-ray for the first time ever last year, courtesy of Kino Lorber.
