Stephen Biro of Unearthed Films has been giving extreme horror fans a lot to look forward to in 2020, with The Profane Exhibit, the films of Ryan Nicholson (Gutterballs, Live Feed, Hanger, etc.), and *hopefully* A Serbian Film Extended Cut all headed to Blu-ray (and DVD) next year!
Well, wouldn't you know it, Biro has done it again by announcing yet another infamous film that's headed to home video via Unearthed with The Untold Story aka The Eight Immortals Restaurant: The Untold Story, one of the most notorious category 3 films ever made!
The synopsis reads: "In 1978 in Hong Kong, a grisly murder takes place. Eight years later, on a Macao beach, kids discover the severed hands of a fresh victim. A squadron of coarse, happy-go-lucky cops investigate, and suspicion falls on Wong Chi Hang, the new owner of Eight Immortals Restaurant, which serves delicious pork buns. The hands belong to the missing mother of the restaurant's former owner; he and his family have disappeared; staff at the restaurant continue to go missing; and, Wong can't produce a signed bill of sale: but there's no evidence. The police arrest Wong and try to torture him into a confession. Can they make him talk? And what was in those pork buns?"
Allegedly based on a true crime, the Herman Yau-directed film gained notoriety in Hong Kong due to its explicit and disturbing depictions of sex and violence involving the Wong Chi-hang character.
Unearthed lets us know that more details on special features, artwork, interviews and, of course, a release date are coming soon!
