I’m one part saint, and two parts sinner… and that last part is still on the line.
Skybound, the home of the wildly popular The Walking Dead franchise, has announced a new partnership with Skydance Interactive. The result of this partnership is The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, a new adventure in the zombie franchise that, pardon the pun, just won’t die.
The gameplay trailer showcases an art style less in line with the Telltale iteration of the franchise, and more in line with that of the comics. Combat-wise, the game looks like a proper survival dream, with the player able to use weapons, both conventional and improvised, from firearms to knives to broken bottles. One scene even sees the player breaking the bottle over the Walker’s head, before jamming the break-off into its dome.
The Telltale Walking Dead series has ended, with Skybound picking up the final two episodes after the untimely demise of Telltale. Overkill’s shot at the adaptation was put down this past February, following Skybound’s split from developers Starbreeze Studios over a lack of performance. Regardless of how you may feel about VR, this is the only viable shot at a new take on the institution that is The Walking Dead. And with the main series continuing, its spinoff growing stronger, and a second spinoff series coming early in the year, it is clear that the fans want more.
And more they are sure to get.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners will be available on January 23, 2020 for Valve Index, Oculus, Vive Cosmos, PlayStation VR and Windows MR. Players can choose between the Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s Editions, and collect in-game bonuses and exclusive items unique to the game’s special editions and platforms.
