Last summer, Sam Raimi revealed that a brand new installment in the Evil Dead franchise was in the works, and back in October, Bruce Campbell revealed that Raimi had selected a new filmmaker to direct the film. Well, as we all know, Campbell has made it very clear that he has "retired" the character of Ash Williams and has no intentions of reprising the role, but that doesn't mean Raimi wouldn't like to see him back in shoes of the everyone's favorite S-Mart salesman with a sawed-off.
During an Ask Me Anything chat on Reddit last night, Raimi stated that he'd love to direct a new entry in the beloved franchise starring Bruce Campbell. "I would love to direct a new Evil Dead movie… but I’d really like to do it with Bruce," said Raimi. "And he says he’s retired the character. I hope not.”
Giving a small update on the future of the Evil Dead franchise, Raimi added, "Bruce, Rob [Tapert] and I are working with a young filmmaker who is writing a new Evil Dead story that he will direct."
The creation of a sequel to Fede Alvarez's 2013 remake was also brought up, to which Raimi replied: "If Fede would write or direct it, yes, in a split second!"
It appears that the team behind Evil Dead are open to pretty much anything at this point, but more importantly, a new film is most definitely in the works! The Evil Dead franchise is one of the few horror franchises that has yet to have a bad entry, so I'm all in for whatever they decide to do!
What would you like to see? Bruce Campbell returning as Ash? A sequel to Fede Alvarez's film? Possibly a continuation of "Ash vs. Evil Dead"? Let us know in the comments!
