Rian Johnson Reveals A Sequel To 'Knives Out' Is In The Works

Knives Out Sequel Rian Johnson

Writer-director Rian Johnson’s (The Last Jedi, Looper) murder-mystery Knives Out has grossed nearly $250 million worldwide on a $40 million budget, which means Lionsgate is probably itching to get to work on a sequel, and even though such a film has yet to be announced, it's pretty safe to say that it's inevitable.

Speaking with THR last night at the Golden Globes, Johnson revealed that a follow-up is, in fact, in the works.

The site reports, "Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter at Lionsgate’s pre-Golden Globes party on Saturday night that he was already developing a sequel centered on Daniel Craig’s Southern detective Benoit Blanc investigating a new case."

Johnson’s producing partner Ram Bergman also revealed that Craig is eager to return, saying, "Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more."

They also add that Johnson is eager to make the sequel, possibly within the next year! It sounds like Johnson is hoping to craft up a new franchise.

In Knives Out, "When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey dies just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc arrives at his estate to investigate. From Harlan's dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Thrombey's untimely demise."
