Before we're treated to his upcoming limited series adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand, director Josh Boone will introduce us to The New Mutants, an original horror thriller set in the X-Men universe and based on the Marvel comic book series, that's headed to theaters on April 3rd, 2020.
Surprisingly enough, after 20th Century Fox's acquisition by Disney, the studio continues to output genre films. Ready or Not was one of the best horror films of 2019, Underwater looks rather promising, and The New Mutants has just received a brand new trailer that certainly has us intrigued by its horror-tinged aesthetics.
The film is set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.
This new trailer, unlike the first, teases the "dark"-themed X-Men film we've been promised for years now. It introduces each of the mutants and their powers. It also features the surprise reveal of the Demon Bear, which gains power from negative human emotions.
The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin aka "Magik", Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair aka "Wolfsbane", Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie aka "Cannonball", Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa aka "Sunspot", Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar aka "Mirage", and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes.
Boone directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Knate Lee. The New Mutants is produced by Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt, and Lauren Shuler Donner.
