HBO And Bong Joon Ho In Talks To Create 'Parasite' English-Language Limited Series

Parasite Bong Joon Ho HBO Series

Just days after winning a Golden Globe for "Best Foreign Language Film," we've learned that Bong Joon Ho‘s critically acclaimed Parasite is reportedly being adapted as an English-language limited series at HBO.

THR reports that HBO is currently in talks to board the series, which will be created and executive produced by both Bong Joon-ho and Adam McKay, who also won a Golden Globe for his HBO drama series "Succession".

"Deals are not done but talks are underway with HBO, which came out on top of a bidding war with Netflix for the rights," the site notes. "It is unclear if the limited series will be some sort of follow-up to the movie or an English-language remake."

Kate Street Picture Company’s Dooho Choi and CJ Entertainment’s Miky Lee will also executive produce alongside Cho Young Ki, Francis Chung, and Kevin Messick. Jerry Ko is a co-executive producer and Fred Lee will produce.

Parasite centers on the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release Parasite on Digital platforms on January 14th, followed by DVD and Blu-ray on January 28th.
