SYFY Orders 'Child's Play' TV Series From Don Mancini

SYFY Child's Play Series Chucky

The red-haired, freckled-faced doll possessed by the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray will will see a return to form following last year's remake, as SYFY has placed a straight to series order for "Chucky", a new series based on the classic Child's Play franchise!

Even cooler, the series will be executive produced by creator Don Mancini, who will also write, serve as showrunner and direct the first episode!

In the new series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll's untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

So, not only will the series continue the original franchise's storyline, it will also dive into the past of Charles Lee Ray!

"The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now," said Mancini.

Produced by Universal Content Productions, the series will also be executive produced by David Kirschner (Hocus Pocus, Frailty), and Nick Antosca (Hulu’s "The Act", SYFY’s "Channel Zero"O) via his banner Eat the Cat, through his overall deal with the studio.

Emmy-nominated Harley Peyton ("Twin Peaks", SYFY’s "Channel Zero") will also serve as executive producer.
